Influential Photographs: Picasso Draws a Centaur in the Air, 1949 by Gjon Mili
While Pablo Picasso worked primarily with paint, the iconic and multi-faceted Spanish artist also fiddled with many other creative mediums. One of them was photography, introduced to him by LIFE photographer Gjon Mili.

Android Editors : Weekly Theme : Still Life : presented by Android Editors member @pavingapril

#AE_Theme_StillLife // There’s a common misunderstanding about what defines a still life photo. Many people think it has to be a photo of dead or inanimate subjects. This isn’t the case. What separates the still life photo from the rest of the herd, has everything to do with the photographer. The photographer must purposefully arrange the subjects and light them (whether naturally or artificially). The actual subject could be anything really, so long as the photographer has influenced it’s location.

Details are everything when you’re dealing with this area of the photo world. You’re basically “creating” the photo in real life, before actually capturing the shot. For the photo above, I grabbed some dead vines and white flowers to arrange next to the sea shell my daughter had brought home from the beach. I used the top of my desk for the white background and the fact that there was soft, indirect light. Avoiding direct light can be helpful, so you don’t get glare and reflection.

This week tag your still life images with #AE_Theme_StillLife (tag old images too)
